The scent of pine meant that the floors were clean.  A subtle lemon aroma meant the furniture had been dusted.  Mountain spring freshness wafted from the laundry.  Our hair and skin were reminiscent of flowers, fruit, baby powder or ocean breezes...ahhh, the smells of being clean.  The smells of toxic chemicals?!?  Ammonia, formaldehyde, hydrochloric acid, petroleum distillates, chlorine...why had I never considered that products that had to be kept out of reach of children have no business being used  around humans, period?  Parabens, sulfates, phthalates, polyethylene glycol...why were we putting these things on our skin, our hair?  Was I so susceptible to marketing that I really thought that these products were the best option?  Apparently...yes.   I was.  I'm not anymore...
